They will indicate alkaline versus nicad/NiMH, or even let you program the low battery warning voltage. Some devices have a menu where you can select between primary and secondary cells. Even though the ENELOOP has lower capacity, it is over a more useful voltage range. You don't want to take secondary cells lower than say 0.9VDC. If you use a good secondary cell like an ENELOOP (Panasonic though older ones were Sanyo), you get about 2AHr over a smaller voltage range of around 1.3VDC to 1VDC. Not every device you own can work over that range. ![]() The capacity of an alkaline cell is measured over a voltage range of 1.5VDC to 0.5VDC. When I need capacity I use Energizer lithium. For most cases when I use primary cells I use Costco alkaline. I think Duracell has some leakage warranty but that should be researched. The conclusion of the experiment was you might as well buy the cheapest alkaline battery unless you need the most capacity. Energizer was the best but like I said it was a long time ago so that may not be true today. What we found was that all the alkaline batteries were within 10% of each other. Years ago where I worked we built a number of battery capacity testers out of home brew current sources for the load and Wal-Mart alarm clocks.
